Happy New Year / Feliz Año Nuevo

Feliz Año Nuevo Tutu - y buena suerte por la 2009 temporada.
Happy new year also to all of Pere's fans around the world who read this blog (and particularly to those of you who have written to me) - let's hope to see him fit and full of enthusiasm following his excellent showing in CEV this year (and to be honest his very decent showing in MotoGP too - we're very proud of you Tutu!) - and that he has a great 2009 with the Matteoni Racing Team in the 125cc class.

Happy New Year Everyone! :-)

Pere Tutusaus Graffiti Desktop Wallpaper

I've done the first of a number of desktop wallpapers based on the #30 artwork I've done of Pere's logo and black cat.
V1.0 is of the logo sprayed on a dark alley wall under harsh lighting.
It's ever so slightly transparent so it sits reasonably realistically on the wall with a tiny touch of blurring to suggest aerosol painting, though I've tried not to get too bogged down in dribbles and splatters etc...
Ignore the preview above, as these are the download links:

Pere Tutusaus #30 Desktop Icons For Mac OSX

I've produced a nice funky set of desktop icons for Mac OSX featuring Pere's #30 logo and cute black cat mascot.
They're great for replacing dull and boring 'standard' folder, document and file icons - and will look brilliant at any scaling with their 3D look and alpha-channel drop shadows and other stylings.
If you run a Mac then just click here to download the icon pack and I hope you get loads of pleasure from them.

I'll be uploading the Windows set in the coming days...

Enjoy :-)

Downloadable 2009 BikeSport Calendars

I've made a bunch of iCals to help keep tabs on all the important dates next year. iCal is an application on the Mac, which uses the open .ics calendar format - which means that you can also use these in various Windows and Linux applications such as Microsoft Works (Version 8 or higher), WinDates, Mozilla Calendar, Sunbird and Zimbra.

HOT NEWS: Pere in 125cc MotoGP in 2009

Great news!
Thanks to a tip-off by stv21, I was totally overjoyed to see that Tutu appears to be back on the 125cc grid for MotoGP in 2009.
A press release today from the FIM, laying out the provisional entry list for all classes in 2009, shows him as entering - as #30 - with Matteoni Racing.

Awesome - made my day, and possibly my week :)

Pere Tutusaus Fans Group On Facebook

A quick snippet of news as we head into the off-season is that I've set up a Facebook Group about Pere - "Pere Tutusaus Fans" - where fans of Tutu who are on Facebook can share photos, videos, news and links.
It's not intended to replace this site, or compete with it or any other Pere websites, but it may hopefully become a useful point of reference, and a good place to find other fans.
Facebook is a pretty large place and a good "connection point" for many, so it makes sense to have a presence there.

Video Interview - Pere @ Jerez Round 7, CEV

Here's a video from after Round 7 of the CEV championship at Jerez, the final race of the season where - as you will know if you've been reading, Tutu came home 3rd securing a 3rd place in the overall championship standings.
Lovely work Tutu - we're proud of you!
I desperately want an explanation for those enormous specs though!!!

Pere Takes Third In Jerez And In 125cc CEV Championship

Another awesome ride from Pere today in the final round of Spain's CEV championship.
He was on the podium again - in third - a result that winds up giving him thrid spot overall in the final Championship standings. (1st Efren Vazquez on 112, second Luis Saom on 96, and third Pere with 79).
Obviously I'm still really sad that the Aspar Team wouldn't let him see out the MotoGP 125cc season with them, but this result today and his whole performance across the year in CEV certainly demonstrates what a talent the guy is.

Felicidades Tutu! Estupendo! :)

Valencia, CEV Rd6: Pere Takes A Brilliant 4th

(*Above: results in full - Click to enlarge)

Well, a tiny bit frustrating for Pere - finishing just off the podium and also just behind Adrian Martin (his Aspar replacement).
But he should feel incredibly proud that he managed such a good result on a far inferior piece of machinery.
Todays result (Salom in first, Vazquez second, and Martin third) sees him now thrid in the overall championship with just one round remaining.

Estupedo, Tutu! :)

It's the penultimate round (rd6) with the final round next weekend at Jerez.

Alvaro Bautista 2009 Calendar Now Online

Okay - a slightly off-topic plug for my 2009 BatiCal, which is now online for download.
As per last year, it's a special BatiFans.com design, completely chocca with great pics, and fully marked up with all MotoGP dates and the Batster's birthday.
All the info and pics you should need to go on your Mac/PC desktop or to print out onto some nice glossy stock for your walls or *real* desktop
I’ve done two versions; one high resolution top print quality, and the other screen quality (although it has to be said this will print out very well indeed anyway).
Just wanted to give you the option of a seriously quality version if you plan on outputting it onto some costly paper/stock.

Full information and downloads are here at the BatiFan.com Fan Forum...

Hope you enjoy it, and I hope you'll pass the links around so that other fans and friends can enjoy it too. As well as a nice piece of Bati fanart and a useful calendar it also helps pimp BatiFans.com so anything you can do to spread the word in that respect is *always* appreciated... :)

Photos Of Pere At Valencia

Valencia GP - 125cc - Results

Sadly a DNF for Pere today, crashing out right at the end of the race (which saw a pretty high rate of attrition, including a number of the faves).
He was competing as a wildcard for the Atletico Madrid Team.
He finished the 125cc Championship season in 26th place with 9 points, picked up in some pretty decent rides mid-season mainly.
We'll now need to wait on to hear of news for rides and prospects for next year's World Championship, as well as the CEV...

Switch From Aspar To ALPO Atlético de Madrid

(*Above: Pere - on number 30 - new team, new colours!)

One minor bombshell that's emerged from the results of Round 5 of the CEV Championships at Albacete is that Pere now appears to have completely switched teams.
Initially when he was replaced in the Aspar WC 125cc squad by Adrian Martin, there was no official talk from the team about him leaving altogether - indeed he was in the box, wearing Aspar colours, at the following race at Misano - and we had assumed that he would continue to compete for the Aspar Team in the Spanish CEV championships, as he had done up to that point.
Something has changed since then though, with a race report on Motociclismo.es containing the following words...

"...después de dejar las filas del Team Aspar y estar ahora defendiendo los colores del ALPO Atlético de Madrid."
This translates roughly as:
"...having left the ranks of the Aspar Team and now racing in the colors of Alpo Atletico de Madrid."

We're surprised at the lack of coverage of the change, and if the split from Aspar is permanent then we're sad, but hope that Pere's career will progress unhindered.
We wish him all the best at the new team - and we hope that we can bring you more news of how he is getting on in due course.

You can find the ALPO Atlético de Madrid team's website here...

(Thanks to Sandra and Tamara with help on this info...)

CEV - Round 5 - Albacete - Grid

As ever, it's not easy to get you information regarding the Spanish CEV championships as it's hard for us to find many or detailed sources here in the UK, but here's what we know...

It seems the 125cc category for today's Round 5 of the CEV at Albacete was divided into 2 groups given the high number of entrants.
Alberto Moncayo is on pole with a time of 1'34 "1. Daniel Saez in second with 1'35 "3, while third is Efren Vazquez, with Louis Salom completing the front row. As far as we can make out Pere heads up the second row.

More later when the results come in!
Buena suerte Tutu :)

Pere Replaced By Adrian Martin In World Championship Squad

Having got all excited posting up the San Marino event schedule and everything it's come as something of a shock and a disappointment to find out that we won't be watching Tutu after all...

Team Bancaja Aspar (according to reports at dailymotos.com) has announced that Pere Tutusaus will be replaced in the 125cc World Championship for the remainder of the season by Adrian Martin (although the team will apparently field local rider Patrick Jacobsen at Indy).
This substitution begins this weekend at San Marino, and according to Aspar is to allow Pere to concentrate on his campaign with the team in Spain’s CEV Championship where he currently lies fourth.
Tutu has run as a wildcard in the World Championships five times during 2006 and 2007, and 2008 is his first proper campaign on the team (he has a three year contract with Bancaja Aspar in the World Championship, according to our reading of the Aspar website).
He currently stands in 26th in the Championship, having pulled back some decent race performances from sometimes disappointing qualifyings, but having proven a solid rider - and particularly so in tricky conditions such as France and China.

WE SAY: Whilst it’s clearly a sign that Aspar wants Pere to focus on the CEV title, and of course that title is about the team no just the rider, so it’s hardly surprising, it is nonetheless disappointing that we won’t see Tutu continue to develop and get experience in the world class this year. Personally I can’t help feeling that if he’d been doing a bit better this decision simply wouldn’t have arisen. I hope I’m wrong, but we all know how deeply sport is about politick as much as genuine sporting strategy.
Let’s hope the move is a wise one and that Pere makes the most of his CEV challenge and that the team is swift to bring him back into the World Championship squad...

Pere - Post Race Quotes; Brno

"I am happy because we have solved the problema of the weekend. The setting was hard to find, so today's result was pretty good. I was fast in the race and was able to fight with a group, with some of my CEV rivals.
I had another great start, and that really helped me out. The Aprilia has a lot of acceleration, but we weren't quite Fast enough. I am happy with my pace."

Pere On The Podium At Albacete - CEV Rd4

Pere on the podium at Albacete; photo from the blog of Rafa - Pere's trainer...

Ahough I was away I thought I should post a quick piece about the CEV round 4 race at Albacete, where Pere came in third.
Here's the short report from motogp.com...

Sunday´s (CEV Buckler 2008) - july 27th - Spanish national championship visit to the Circuito de Albacete, for the fourth round of the year, saw Spanish rider Efren Vazquez, who also competes full-time in the 125cc World Championship, take victory in the 125cc class.
The Basque youngster, who rides with the Blusens Aprilia Junior in Grands Prix, secured the triumph on the last lap following an intense battle with Derbi rider Alberto Moncayo (Derbi). Another World Championship regular, Pere Tutusaus, who rides for Bancaja Aspar, completed the podium.
Vazquez (Aprilia) led from the first lap, while pole man Adrian Martín (Aprilia) said goodbye to his hopes of glory when he dropped out on the second lap. Furthermore, race-winner Vazquez is now the new leader in the category, leapfrogging Luis Salom (Aprilia) in the standings alter Salom retired with a technical fault late in the race.

Excellent job Tutu :)

See You In August

Okay - I'm away travelling for 2 to 3 weeks now (neatly fitting into the summer break for 250cc and 125cc classes!) so there's not likely to be any updates here until the beginning of August.
First up is a couple of weeks in Egypt, based in Luxor and mixing sunbathng and swimming with visting tombs and temples on the east and west banks of the Nile and farther north too - then a couple of days in Spain attending the Alvaro Bautista Official Fanclub Summer Party in Bati's hometown of Talavera de la Reina. Awesome :)

Anyhoo - for all the best updates and chat on what's going on with your favourite riders I'd always recommend you get over to BatiFans.com - The Alvaro Bautista Fan Forum and join in...

I'm going to miss the cats - and I'm going to miss DEXTER - but otherwise I'm stoked and ready for some well-deserved rest.
See you back here soon :)

Pere Tutusaus: Quotes After German GP, Sachsenring

13th Pere Tutusaus:
"It has been one of the most fun races to date for me in the World Championship, but it was hard. All weekend we had a multitude of complications and I never felt at ease with my riding.
From the start I focused on coming back through the pack, and I saw a group way out in front that I tried to catch. I saw Pol and I drove myself to pass him, and from there my confidence grew and grew.
I had the will to take points, and I can continue my motivated state during the summer, eager to get back into action the same way that I did today."

Pere's Excellent 13th In Tricky Conditions At The Sachsenring

A great ride from Pere today in the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring, which hopefully cheered him up after his disappointing qualifying.
Mixed ad complex conditions, which saw a high rate of attrition, didn't trouble him and - as at other wet/difficult races earlier in the season - he kept it together, rode solidly and brought it home in an excellent 13th. :)

Nice work Tutu!

Pere Tutusaus - Sachsenring, Saturday Quote...

31st Pere Tutusaus: 1.29.618 (17 laps):
"I'm a bit gutted because things didn't go well at all for us on wet tyres this morning. We have to look at the telemetry because I think there was something wrong with the bike - the engine was losing power in certain areas of the track.
It is strange because I like the circuit but I can't get comfortable here. The start will be tough because we're a long way down the grid but I'll try my best to put in a good performance."

11 Jul 2008

Pere Tutusaus - Sachsenring, Friday Quote...

27th Pere Tutusaus: 1.29.706 (18 laps):
"The first session didn't go well because it rained a little and this, added to the fact that this is a new and difficult circuit for me to learn, made me be quite hesitant. We improved in qualifying but we have to take another step forward if we want to challenge in the top 20.
This circuit is full of left-handers so the left side of the tyre gets a lot of wear and this causes the bike to slide, which I've not got used to yet. We have to work hard on the set-up of my Aprilia and hope it doesn't rain tomorrow.
If I can improve my pace I'm sure I'll enjoy the track more because I like its characteristics."

Post-race Quote From Pere: Assen

21st Pere Tutusaus:
"It was a really strange race. They stopped and we were made to start again, but I didn't feel at ease in either of the races. The weekend was developing well and I felt a good feeling with the bike, but I didn't have any good starts and was behind from the beginning. I would have liked to have fought for the top fifteen, but I wasn't able to do it. In Sachsenring we have another opportunity to continue learning, and I hope that things go better."

Pere - Quote After Quali 2, Assen

24th Pere Tutusaus: 1.47.354 (15 laps):
"Today was tricky because of the weather. In the morning we rode in the wet and got a good feeling but in the dry this afternoon we struggled to get a rhythm together. I got with a group of riders ahead of me and was almost as fast as them. I came in to change tyres and we stepped the pace up bit but then I got held up by Nico and Smith and it cost me a good lap. I think it wasn't possible to lap as fast today as we did yesterday because of the conditions, which were damp all day, and tomorrow's race will be tough for us starting from 24th. We have to believe in ourselves, get a good start and try to make up positions."

Pere - Quote after Quali 1, Assen

24th Pere Tutusaus: 1.47.354 (15 laps):
"Assen is a pretty cool track - my first impressions are really good. In qualifying I improved my best lap by over a second from the morning. I think that taking into account the fact I didn't follow anybody it is a good lap time but we have to hope that it doesn't rain tomorrow, as it is forecast, so that we can continue to improve.
We experimented with the rear wheel because I went for the smaller one (115), as I did at Donington, but it was moving around a lot so I came in and changed to the bigger one (120). The change worked well but the fact it is a completely new circuit doesn't help much."

British Grand Prix - Donington - Report

After qualifying 25th, Pere came home 22nd in the British GP; and although as you can see from the quote below he isn't overly pleased with the result, he shouldn't be too hard on himself in a weekend of wildly variable conditions on a track completely new to him - and a challenge to many riders really...
The race was ultimatley dominated by Scott Redding's historic win, but Pere rode solidly and avoiding any troubles with other riders or any aggravation from the blustery conditions.

Great weekend for me, finally getting to meet with Pere and his manager Pedro - many thanks for your time! It was a pleasure to meet you both. I hope this website will continue to work hard to represent Pere to fans outside of Spain and across the world.

Anyway - back to the race. Here's Pere's quotes...
I am very disappointed with 22nd, because it wasn’t what I wanted and I think that I could have done more. I never felt comfortable with the bike and know that we can improve further with the bike. In the race I started really well, but there was a crash at the start that put my chances in danger. Now my goal is to be in the points over the next few races.

Off To Donington

Okay - just a quickie - I'm off to Donington very early tomorrow morning for the GP weekend.
This means that I may not be able to update the blog over the coming days (I'm taking my MacBook Pro and camera, but simply don't know if I'll actually get online).
To keep up with all the chat on 125cc, 250cc and MotoGP for the British Grand Prix I couldn't do better than point you at BatiFans.com

Let's hope for a brill time for Pere on the back of that excellent CEV performance.
Buena Suerte Tutu! :)

Pere Tutusaus: Quotes Ahead Of British GP

“After the Grand Prix of Catalunya I remained all week in Igualada, at home, to train with the trials bike.
I understand that Donington circuit is a very complicated circuit because it does not have good grip, and it rains usually at least one day of each GP weekend.
After the weekend in Jerez(*) where I got onto the podium, I just want to continue working with that same dynamic that I have now got, to deal with the British round as well as possible.
My aim once again is to try to get into the points, and to keep learning every day.”

(* Pere is referring here to his 2nd place finish in Round 3 of the Spanish CEV Championship at Jerez, 15/06/08)

UPDATE: Latest news on CEV Round 3 125cc Accident, Jerez

Thanks to Tamara for an update on the outcome of that nasty accident at Sunday's CEV 125cc race at Jerez.
She's found this report from Associated Press...

Axel Pons of Pons-Aprilia fractured both bones in his lower left leg and was taken to the Puerta del Mar hospital in Cadiz, track officials said in a statement.
Pons fell... and was trying to move off the track when he was hit by other motorcycles.
Team Machado rider Carlos Ferrando broke his left thigh bone and was taken to the SAS hospital in Jerez.
Team KTM rider Edgar Garcia and Josep Rodriguez of TMR had shoulder injuries in the same incident but did not require hospital treatment.

It looked a shocker of an incident; those sound pretty serious injuries - so let's hope these guys are on the mend soon.

An excellent result for Pere today in Round 3 of the Spanish CEV Championships, held at Jerez, where he was competing in the 125cc class. Rounding off a superb weekend's performances, our guy followed up his 4th in Qualifying with a great podium position in the race... 2nd.
The race was initially red-flagged following a huge accident which injured four of the riders...

Pere Tutusaus: Quotes, Day 1, Catalunya GP

"I had a lot of fun in the two sessions today, which hasn't happened for a long time. I had a great time running with Gábor and Sergio at the start of qualifying and that's given me a real confidence boost. The team is happy with me and with the performance of my Aprilia. Hopefully I can come out strong tomorrow and work towards a good result, some points, in my home Grand Prix. There are a couple of corners where the gears are long and we're not getting enough revs but we're going to change that now so that the bike runs perfectly. At Mugello we put last year's chassis in and I like the result a lot."

Pere Talks About His Mugello Race...

"As always I had a good start from far back. I quickly got amongst the top 20, fighting with Redding and Marquez, and I really feel happy with my race. I reduced my fastest time by two seconds, got into a Fast Group and had some fun. The satisfaction is even better considering the difficulties faced when finding the setting. The key was to just ride and ride. This result gives us optimism for the race in Montmelo, and I also want to congratulate Gabor on returning to the podium after the difficult start to the season."

Pere currently stands 24th in the overall championship table with 5 points.
Onto Catalunya...
